WSJ: Medical research tower opens near UW Hospital
Wisconsin State Journal story by David Wahlberg:
Hundreds of scientists from a variety of fields will study cancer, heart disease, brain conditions, eye disorders and other medical problems in a $130 million research building that officially opened Thursday next to UW Hospital.
Researchers started moving into the second of three planned towers of the Wisconsin Institutes for Medical Research in December, with more expected in waves through the end of this year.
Eventually, 1,300 people are expected to work in the nine-story building, for which construction was supported by $67.4 million in state funding. They’re joining about 600 researchers in the $185 million first tower, which opened in 2008. It’s not clear when the third tower might be built.
